  • What is the HS Code for Metal Lathe ?

The "HS Code" is the short for Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System. It's a list of numbers used by Global Customs Organization to classify a product.  The HS Code (Harmonized System Code ) for Metal Lathe (Metalworking Lathe) or Manual Lathe Machine is 845899.
  • What is the Maximum Swing Over Bed, Swing Over Cross Slide and Swing Over Gap on a Lathe ?

Lathe is called mother of all machines, it can be used to machining many kinds of work-pieces, even odd shaped jobs. Lathe machines are widely used in workshop, industry factory, power plant, educational training school, aerospace, vessel ship and repair work. When you are going to buy a proper size of good lathe machine with correct specifications, there are several questions to ask yourself before you begin the process. Some of important technical questions are obvious as bellowing:

    -  What is the " Maximum Swing Over Bed " on the Lathe ?
    -  What is the "Maximum Swing Over Gap" on the Lathe ?
    -  What is the " Maximum Swing Over Cross Slide" on the Lathe Machine ?

    -  What is the " Distance Between Centers" on the Lathe Machine ?

Height of center line is the "Center Height".  This "Center Height" also is the key factor to form different swing sizes.

The "Max. Swing" is first considered factor since it determines the diameter allowance for work-piece. The lathe machine's "maximum swing" refers to the largest diameter part that can be spun in the chuck without mechanical interference with guarding, cross-slide, or other machine components located near the chucking area. And the "Max. Swing" and the "Distance Between Centers (Admit Between Center)" also will define the working capacity of turning lathe machines.

    Maximum Swing Over Bed
The "Maximum Swing Diameter Over the Bed": This indicates the maximum diameter of the work-piece that could revolve over the bed ways. This means the maximum diameter that can be mounted without striking the bed. Swing over bed is also swing over Z-axis guide way (longitudinal guide way).

    Maximum Swing Over Gap
Some lathes have what is commonly known as a "Gap Bed". There is a section of the bed just in front of the head stock that can be removed at will to accommodate larger diameter work-piece. When this section is removed and a "Gap" is left.

As a result, this kind of turning lathe machines have the design of gap on bed to allow work-piece bigger than swing over cross slide. But this gap is created by removing gap block and take some distance of Z-axis guide way. So only for some special flange type work-piece then the customer will need gap on the bed. Normally, lathe machine with gap is for facing machining.

Distance Between Centers (Admit Between Center)
The "Distance Between Centers" :  This expresses the maximum length of job (work-piece) that can be mounted between the lathe centers (such as between head stock and tailstock).

    Maximum Swing Over Cross Slide
The "Maximum Swing Diameter Over the Cross Slide":  It indicates the maximum diameter of the work-piece that could rotate over the carriage. This means it would be the largest diameter that will clear the cross slide on top of the carriage.

The "Swing Over Cross Slide" is diameter allowance upon the cross slide (or worktable). When work-piece is long and cross slide has to go through the work-piece for outside turning, such as still roller, pipe and etc. Then it is necessary to consider the "Swing Over Cross Slide". General speaking, The "swing over cross slide" will be smaller than "swing over bed".

  • What is the Warranty Period for metal lathe ?

The Standard Limited Warranty Period for Metalworking Lathes is about 1 year since from the date that it is shipped.

  • What is the packing type for metal lathe ?

Many machines manufacturer factories mainly to use wooden case packing for metal lathes, and use wooden pallet packing for heavy duty universal lathes.
