  • 1. How much does a good metal lathe cost ?

    The Metal Lathe Machines price is range from a few hundred bucks to tens of thousands. It all depends on what you need. Normally, The price for Mini Lathe is less than engine lathe, The price for middle size of engine Lathe is less than heavy duty universal lathe machine. 
  • 2. How to maintain a metal lathe

    Because Metal Working Lathe machines are susceptible to wear and tear when they are used, they require frequently maintenance. Regular Maintenance ensures lathes are in good working condition. There are several things to be considered when maintaining a metal working lathe machine. Maintenance should ideally happen every working 40 hours to ensure it functions well. 
     
    --Use lathe board
    Lathe board helps hold materials from falling. When the operator is changing components of the lathe machine, such as chucks, centerpieces, or the workpiece, and they slip, the lathe board holds them.
     
    --Keep tools off the lathe ways
    Any tools necessary while working with the lathe machine should be placed on a separate table and not on the lathe ways.
     
    --Lubricate
    The lathe machine is primarily made of metal components. Lathe operators should always ensure that the machine is well lubricated before operating. Failure to do so could lead to severe compromise in the precision of the metal cutting tools.
     
    --Clean spindle tapers
    Spindle tapers can experience axial or radial runout. Axial runout occurs when the spindle rotates outside its axis. Radial runout is an error that occurs in the motion perpendicular to the spindle axis. The spindle tapers should be inspected and cleaned with a soft, lint-free cloth when tools are being changed.
     
    --Clean dust
    Operators need to wipe off the dust on the machine, workpieces, and way wipes. The way wipes should be replaced once they are worn out.  
     
    --Protect from rust
    Rust is always a big factor to consider when working with metal lathe machines. Proper protection has to be made for lathes. Rust can cause weakening of the lathe machine structure, corrosion, and damaged parts. To guard against rust, lathe machines should be cleaned regularly and coated with oils that inhibit corrosion.
     
    --Calibrate the precision
    After maintenance of the lathe machine, some of the settings may have been tampered with. Recalibration of the lathe is recommended after maintenance. Regular maintenance and calibration also result in the production of accurate workpieces.

    The well-maintained metal lathe machine can work about 10 to 30 years, depending on several factors. The lifespan can vary based on the type of lathe, its usage, and how well it's cared for. Heavy-duty industrial lathes that are used continuously in high-demand settings may have a shorter lifespan, typically around 10-15 years. On the other hand, lathes used in small workshops or for occasional projects can easily work 20-30 years or more.
